Structural Ceramics
Structural ceramics serve predominantly needs at high temperatures where metals show excessive creep and oxidation and under special chemical conditions due to their good corrosion resistance. Structural ceramics are stiff, have high hardness, and highly ware resistant. They find applications in mechanical and chemical engineering technologies as well as in medicine due to their biocompatibility. Our research concentrates on improving their mechanical properties, their reliability, and load bearing capacity by new processing techniques and microstructural design for improved toughness.
