Abstract |
|
The use of the nitrogen ceramics Si3N4 and SiAION as high temperature materials is given by the formation of a glassy SiO2-surface layer. The oxidation kinetics corresponds to the known data of the permeation of molecular oxygen through the SiO2-glass layer. In the case of SiAION partly crystallized glasses are formed in which oxygen can only penetrate through the glass-phase and not through the mullite-crystalls. Hot pressed Si3N4 forms MgO-silicates with higher oxidation-rates. [18 Refs] |
