Functional Ceramics
These research activities cover the interplay of materials composition, processing, microstructures, and properties. We research superconductors, varistors, ionic conductors and mixed ionic/electronic conductors as well as semiconductors. Their properties are highly depending on the overall compostions and subtle spatially resolved compositional differences. Their potential applications range from novel superconducting current limiters over surge arrestors to sensors, solid oxide fuel cells, and integrated circuits.
Examples of research subjects are:
- HTSC components of the system Bi-2212
- Novel solid oxide fuel cells
- Single chamber solid oxide fuel cells
- Thin film solid oxide fuel cells
- Anodes for Solid Oxide Fuel Cells
- Sintering of nanometer scaled powders
- Spray pyrolysis of thin films
- Experimental determination of heterogeneous phase equilibria in multi-component systems
